Do you offer both Initial and Recurrent training?

Yes. We offer Initial type ratings and Recurrent training for each type along with other auxiliary training to complement.

Can I complete my ATP checkride with my type rating?

Yes. ATP checkrides can be completed alongside certain Initial courses resulting in a new certification. Our team can confirm eligibility based on your background.

Scheduling & Availability

Where are you located?

LOFT is based in Carlsbad, California, near San Diego International Airport (SAN) at 6150 Corte Del Cedro, Carlsbad, CA 92011. Our coastal Southern California location offers year-round ideal weather and convenient access to dining and leisure options.

How far out do you typically schedule training?

While our open availability typically begins 6-8 weeks out, we welcome clients to schedule as far in advance as they’d like for added peace of mind. Booking ahead allows us to better accommodate specific date or time requests, and thanks to our on-demand scheduling model, we can also explore earlier options or adjust training.

Can I request specific dates?

Absolutely! If you have preferred dates, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate them with our on-demand scheduling model.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

Details are provided during enrollment and outlined in our deposit waiver. Our team is always happy to discuss options if plans change.

Part 135 & Charter Training

Do you support Part 135 training?

Yes. LOFT supports Part 135 training events including Initials, Recurrents, Upgrades, and 135.293 / 135.297 checks.

Can you help with OpSpec A031 onboarding?

Yes. LOFT assists with AO31 Standardization Review by providing a structured onboarding kit that helps streamline the standardization review and coordination with your FAA Principal Operations Inspector (POI), making it easier to align training and begin operations efficiently.

What documents are required for Part 135 training?

Required documentation varies by operator and aircraft, but Part 135 training typically requires an approved OpSpec A031, FAA-approved training manuals, and supporting documentation such as check airman letters and training checklists. LOFT provides an onboarding kit and works with operators to help identify and coordinate the specific documents needed to support training and ensure alignment with the operator’s approved program and FAA requirements.

International Pilots (Visa & TSA)

Do international pilots need a visa to train at LOFT?

Yes. Most Initial courses or training events resulting in a new certification require an M-1 visa for non-U.S. citizens and an issued I-20 from LOFT. A B-1/B-2, standalone B-1, or ESTA are typically needed for training events such as a recurrent.

How long does the visa and TSA process take?

We recommend scheduling at least 60 days in advance to allow time for M-1 visa issuance and TSA approval. Should the process finish sooner, we can look at moving up scheduled training events sooner. You can schedule training sooner than 60 days at your own discretion.

Do you help with the visa and TSA process?

Yes. Our team provides guidance at each step and has extensive experience working with international pilots.

If I am a permanent resident or green card holder, do I still need an M-1 visa?

No, lawful permanent residents do not need an M-1 visa or I-20. However, you still need TSA/FTSP approval for either an initial or recurrent event.

Travel, Lodging & Logistics

Do you offer hotel recommendations or discounts?

Yes. We partner with several local hotels and provide discounted rates for LOFT clients.

Do I need to arrange my own transportation?

Most clients arrange their own travel, but our team can provide local recommendations if needed and help with scheduling a car rental.

Records, Checkrides & After Training

When will my training records be available?

Training records are typically available the same day of completion.

How do I access my records later?

Records can be requested directly from LOFT at any time up to 1 year of the training event in accordance with the FAA. If you are requesting training records pertaining to a Part 135 training event, please reach out to that Part 135 operator.

Who conducts the checkride?

Checkrides are conducted by our in-house FAA-approved Training Center Evaluators (TCE). We can also accommodate foreign check airmen for foreign based training events resulting in a non FAA pilot certification.
